One one occasion, we asked Shri Swami Vikasanand, " What is the Watchword of Life?" In the characteristic way which he has of crystalline in the given moment the essence of human wisdom the Swamiji replied. " The watchword of life is the word WATCH. Now watch you the word WATCH and watch carefully every letter of the word. Ponder over the significance of each letter and you will receive the guidance which you seek".
On our requesting him to elucidate his statement further, he added, "What do the words W, A, T, C and H stand for? W is for WORD, A for ACTION, T for THOUGHTS, C for CONVICTION, and H for HAPPINESS. Right words, right actions, right thoughts, right convictions and right happiness are the achievements you should really strive for. But do you ? if you closely observe your own and other people's words actions, thoughts, convictions and happiness, they will reveal to you what perpetuates dark ignorance and what leads to true self-knowledge."
In answer to a further query, he observed , " The four objectives of a full life or chatushthaya jeevan are dharm, asrtha, kam and moksha. Life is manifested in the body as movement or spandana. this movement which begins at birth continues till the moment of death. The period of time for which this movement is manifest in a body is its span of life. This is the Time allotted to the individual in that particular birth for achieving the four objectives. Every man expresses himself in thoughts and actions. How much time does he devote each of objectives proportionally? Is he aware of extent to which his thoughts and actions contributes to any of the four objectives? Movement is for evolution beyond all the four objectives into pure, formless Conciousness. It is ceaseless thought out the span of life. You must watch how the total period of movement at your disposal in this life is utilised and how much your thoughts and actions contribute to the realisation of the ideal or supreme state through the stages of the four objectives. Therefore, you must watch the word WATCH" .
